How to Add More Protein to Appetizers
If you’re heading to a party and want to up your protein intake to feel satisfied and prevent over eating, here are a few tips and tricks:
Replace sour cream based dips with Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt has a very similar taste but much more protein. You could simply mix a dip mix with greek yogurt and call it a day.
Use cottage cheese. Did you know that blending cottage cheese gives it a creamy texture? You could use this in place (or go half and half) with yogurt for dips. Another delicious way to use cottage cheese is to add it to recipes that call for cream cheese. I like to do half and half (half cream cheese, half cottage cheese).
Adding a little extra protein at a time to your favorite appetizers. There are probably plenty of recipes you don’t want to change, and that’s fair. Why not add to it? Add some nuts as a topping, add cooked chicken if it makes sense, beans to nachos, etc. I also like to add almond flour to breading for a crunch with a little extra protein and healthy fats.
Swap beef for chicken. Snacking on nachos? Swap out beef for chicken, if it makes sense in the recipe. They’re both high in protein but chicken has less fat. This will have your macros a little higher in protein.
If at a party, focus on the higher protein appetizers. Yes, we all love a good dip and crackers but add some of the high-protein snacks to your plate and some veggies too. This will keep you full thanks to the protein and fiber.
