Gluten Free Air Fryer Cauliflower Bites

This recipe uses coconut sauce (also known as coconut aminos), which is a gluten-free alternative to soy sauce.

You can substitute it for Bragg’s liquid aminos or whatever gluten-free soy sauce you have on hand.

If you’re not gluten-free, then use your favorite soy sauce instead.

Air Fryer Tips

Each air fryer varies slightly but this recipe should work the same across the board.

The air fryer I used for this recipe.

I used this toaster oven air fryer combo that I won in a contest this fall. It’s amazing. I also have an air fryer setting on my oven and I use my Ninja Foodi’s air fryer setting often (if you have an Instant Pot, there is an air fryer lid you can buy).

It really doesn’t matter what kind you have, just make it work for you. You may have to cook it for less time or a little more.

  • Do not preheat your air fryer for this recipe. Add the ingredients and then turn it on.
  • Check the cauliflower bites at the 10 minute mark. Give it a shake to prevent burning.
  • If the cauliflower looks done at this point, take it out.
  • If you have a traditional air fryer, these air fryer liners will help save you a mess.
  • Add the cauliflower to the air fryer basket in a single layer. This will help the air hit all areas for even cooking.

Ingredients for Asian Cauliflower Bites

Here’s what you’ll need for the sesame cauliflower recipe.

  • Cauliflower. The star of the show. You will want to rip it up into bite-sized pieces.
  • Soy sauce or coconut sauce. Or whatever soy sauce alternative (if gluten free) you have on hand.
  • Toasted sesame oil. Get the toasted variety over the plain sesame oil, it offers a lot more flavor.
  • Brown sugar. This gives it that deep sweetness, you can also use brown sugar swerve if you’re reducing your sugar intake.
  • Chili garlic sauce. This is the stuff that has a rooster on it.
  • Garlic powder. Feel free to use fresh garlic, but I was out so powder it is.
  • Ginger powder. The same applies as above.
  • Cornstarch or arrowroot powder. This will be your thickener for the sauce. I used arrowroot powder.
  • Sesame seeds and green onions. For garnish, it’s not necessary.

Turn the Marinade into a Sauce

One of my favorite tricks in the kitchen for a flavorful meal is to turn a marinade into a sauce.

In this case, you will toss the cauliflower florets in the sauce before you air fry it.

While the cauliflower is cooking, pour the contents out of the bowl and into a small saucepan.

Add a thickener like arrowroot powder or cornstarch, turn on the heat to medium and whisk until thick.

You could also use the sauce as a dip if you prefer.

Storage

If you have any leftovers, you can store them in an air-tight container or wrap the bowl with plastic wrap.

The leftover cauliflower will be soft, it loses its crispiness as it sits I found (but it still tastes delicious).

I put some leftovers on a salad I made for lunch, and it was delicious but this would also be good in a stir fry.

The sauce is what truly makes this recipe what it is.

I took my favorite Asian inspired flavors and mixed them together.

Note: if you do not like spicy food, reduce the amount of chili garlic sauce by 1-2 teaspoons. This recipe does have a little kick to it and my kids found it spicy.
