Meal Planning Makes Life Easier

Creating a meal plan may not seem like much, but it can absolutely ease some of the stress in your day to day life. Meal planning can help you save time, save money, and stay organized. It doesn’t get much easier than that.

Let me show you how.

Is This You?

It’s almost dinnertime. The kids are hungry and cranky. It has been a long day and you’re tired. You open up the fridge and find…one egg, a tomato, a jar of pickles, a wedge of cheese, and a container of milk. The pantry doesn’t yield much more.

This is NOT easy.

Meal Planning is a Life Hack (and a sanity saver)

Now picture your fridge again.

This time there’s a meal plan hanging on it. You know exactly what’s for dinner tonight. When you open the fridge and pantry, you see all the ingredients you need to make it. You can actually think about dinnertime and breathe a sigh of relief for a change.

Why does Meal Planning Matter?

When you have planned out all your meals for the week, grocery shopping becomes so much easier.

You will know exactly what you need to buy and you’ll avoid food waste.

You can go shopping once and buy everything you need, instead of running out daily to grab an item or two. Ain’t nobody got time for that!

As an added bonus, you’ll even save money on groceries too!

If you’re thinking ahead to what meals you’re going to serve that week, it also gives you time to consider how to grab yourself some two-for-one tasks.

Randomly picking up a chicken at the store generally means that all you’re thinking about at that moment is that one chicken meal.

Meal planning gives you the freedom to plan for the best use of your time.

We’re going to have roast chicken on Sunday and use the leftovers on Tuesday to make chicken tacos.

I need onions for Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, so I’m going to cut up enough of them on Monday while browning some ground meat. Easy.

See the difference?

Let’s look at another common scenario.

It’s Thursday night.

You’ve had a good day and you’re feeling really on top of things. You’re about to start preparing dinner when your daughter runs into the room yelling, “Come on! We’re going to be late!”.

Late? Late for what? Oh no.  Baseball practice. There’s no time for the dinner you were going to make so another run through the drive-through it is!

When this happens I like to have these coconut flour waffles in the freezer, because at least I can toss them in the toaster for a quick bite. Breakfast for dinner is never a bad thing.

Or, you could have made things easier by meal planning.

Sitting down, calendar in hand, you plan out your meals for the week, taking into account everything on your schedule.

You won’t have a 15-step complicated dinner planned for Thursday night; instead, you’ll know that you need an idea that works along with baseball practice.

Easy.

Finally, once you have a few meal plans under your belt, you’ve now got a record of successful (and maybe not-so-successful) meals to rely on.

No more reinventing the wheel! Take a deep breath and let out a sigh of relief. Meal planning not only makes life easier, but it even gets easier and easier over time!
